That Time I Met Tim Curry, and All It Meant to Me

How to explain the impact of Tim Curry upon me? There’s so much to tell. It is hard to begin at the end.

But perhaps not impossible.

What better proof of the profundity in a connection than the sheer number of people who reach out to you—people you haven’t spoken to since high school, people from several professional lifetimes ago, people who grew up with you, and people who’ve only known you a few months—to check on you, as if you were actual family to a person you’ve never met?

Well. Actually, I did meet Tim Curry once.

I’m sure you’ve heard the advice to “never meet your heroes.” At worst, they turn out to be monsters, and at best the experience will still never, ever live up to your dreams.

Except, mine did.

In fact, I never dared to dream so big as that day was.
